At Open Heart “Love Your Neighbor” Isn’t Lip Service.

We take seriously the words of Isaiah 58:
"If you get rid of unfair practices,
quit blaming victims,
quit gossiping about other people’s sins,
If you are generous with the hungry
and start giving yourselves to the down-and-out,
Your lives will begin to glow in the darkness,
your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight.
I will always show you where to go.
I’ll give you a full life in the emptiest of places—
firm muscles, strong bones.
You’ll be like a well-watered garden,
a gurgling spring that never runs dry.
You’ll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew,
rebuild the foundations from out of your past.
You’ll be known as those who can fix anything,
restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate,
make the community livable again."
-Isaiah 58: 9-12 (MSG)

Get INvolved

From joining or starting a small group study to volunteering to help with our children's and youth programs, helping our Circle of Friends make muffins and pasties, volunteering to help with Feeding South Dakota or with Solar Ovens Partners, or even offering your gifts during services: whether it be by singing, reading scripture, or helping as an usher, there are many ways you can get involved, find friendship and community, and love with the heart of Jesus at Open Heart!

Our impact

For over 60 years, Open Heart UMC (formerly South Maple United Methodist Church) has impacted thousands of members in the Rapid City community and beyond. That impact comes through serving meals at the Cornerstone Rescue Mission, working on international mission projects through the United Methodist Committee on Relief,  and  encouraging young people to grow in faith through children's and youth programming. The people of Open Heart hear the call to serve as Christ asks: with non-judgement and open-hearted compassion.
